It's been a weird few days for Harry. But weird in a good way, which is sort of what makes it weird. He's not really used to so many good things happening at once like that. He and Harmony are going out on Saturday (which, ok, that's going to be awkward since he's down to like, his last $40), he's got a job that doesn't involve moving heavy boxes across some nasty warehouse, and no-one's tried to shoot at him in several weeks.

He's celebrating by taking over Perry's sofa with a book he found in the office. He's half-way through The Sign of Four and wondering why no-one ever told him that the Victorians were into more than just melodramatic romance. He might have actually read these earlier if someone had bothered to tell him that there was actually a decent plot to them.

"Fuck that. You'll only cover it in crap, and it's actually useful." By now a couple of surly guys have pulled up with some flat-pack furniture and even some bedding (Perry's guy is looking forward to never hearing from him again), so Perry gets them to take the desk upstairs. He doesn't help Harry with the flat-pack stuff.

"You do realise you're my bitch now?"

"Never you mind," Perry snaps. "What's it to you, anyway?"

"I haven't had a roommate since college, what do you think, fuckhead?"

Whatever other witty retort Perry had lined up is cut off by Surly.

"The boss says that you're even now."

"The boss? Tell him he's still not a mob boss, he's a furniture salesman." Perry gives his best bitchface. "Now, if you don't mind, fuck off."

"Asshole."

"Bite me."

That charming exchange made, Perry turns back to Harry.

"You need a screwdriver or anything?"

"Yeah well, if you steal any of my shit I'll break your face." Not an empty threat.

Again with the f-word. To hide his confusion, Perry heads back to the lounge. He grabs Harry's bag, it finally gives up the fight for life, tears along a seam, and packets of gum spill over the floor in a shoal.

"The fuck?"

He grabs a handful and pounds back down the hall.

"What the hell is this?" He drops it in front of Harry.

"Yeah, oh. Come on, explanations now, shithead." Perry hauls Harry up by the shoulder of his shirt.

"Did you pay for it? Well? Because for a guy down to his last forty bucks, that's an awful lot of dollars." So Perry's pissed.

"You stole them. From the hotel. Jesus Christ, Harry." Perry drops him, looking disgusted. "The fuck is your problem?"

[identity profile] thereal-lapi.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
"But you stole it. As in, you took it without permission. You said you were going straight. Or is this what passes for straight on the East Coast?" Perry considers shaking him till he gets a clue.

"'It was a rough week?' What, is this how you get your kicks? You son of a bitch..." Perry is pissed, but it's all tangled up with other emotions, so he just cuffs Harry over the head. "What is wrong with you?"

[identity profile] thereal-lapi.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
"So what you're telling me, asshole, is you stole all this shit just to feel better?" Perry cuffs him again, for ducking, and drops his shirt, though he doesn't step back.

Perry stares at him, long enough to make anyone uncomfortable.

"That's actually fucked up. You didn't even have to pay for this shit, they had it in tacky little bowls everywhere. Would you have taken it if they had made you pay for it?"
